NOT a creature of habit

I want to be organized. I truly do, but something inside of me wants to resist the idea of having a daily routine. Once I try to set a workout routine, sleeping routine, morning routine, etc., I rebel against the idea of having to do the same thing day in and day out. Now, don’t get me wrong, I know that all of us work better on a routine. Most of us are creatures of habit. Some of you (ahem my boyfriend) swear by your daily routines to get you out of bed and on your way to start the work day. Unfortunately, this just isn’t me.

Now that I’m a big kid and I have my 9 to 5 job, I seriously need to get some pointers on making it day-to-day on a routine. I have created a workout plan that has me working out a 6AM. Trust me when I say, I am a morning person, so the earliness isn’t the issue for me. It’s the fact that at 6AM every morning I know where I will be, in the gym, and for some reason that doesn’t comfort me, it drives me nuts.

I need to make this routine work for me; I have too many excuses to just work out sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the evening. Here are my strategies to making this routine work for me, and hopefully help some of you with the same issue.

  1. To help with my boredom issue, which I believe is the problem I have with routines, I have alternated workout routines each day, so I don’t get tired of the same routine day after day.
  2. I also have thrown in random group fitness classes at different times in the day to make up for calories I didn’t burn when I happen to rebel against my 6AM workout
  3. With my family’s help, I have turned my fitness goal into a game. Hopefully some family competitive spirit will kick in and I’ll want to earn all of the bragging rights.

Do any of you creatures of habit have any good ideas to help turn my forced routine into a daily habit?
